Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) – reviewed by George

This is exciting and suspenseful, really ramped up with action. In a dystopian future Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) is the leader of a colony of survivors, well-organized, either by Joe or a predecessor. They live in a place called The Citadel and have plenty of water pumped up from deep under the desert. As the movie starts Max (Tom Hardy) is captured by some of the men, who are called War Dogs (teenagers are War Pups), and is given to one guy as his Blood Bag. Also, Furiosa (Charlize Theron) is leaving with a big rig pulling a gas tanker to deliver to a nearby colony, the Bullet Farmers.
In actuality she is stealing the gas to get across the desert and back to the Green Place from which she was kidnapped as a child. Max is tied and taken along by his owner, since there is a big convoy of vehicles and motor bikes accompanying her. She secretly has five of Joe’s wives with her, making an escape also, and they are hidden in the back of the cab.
Her plan is to move very fast as the road narrows through a gorge and get far enough ahead that she and the girls can’t get caught.
How Max joins them, how a young War Dog named Nux (NIcholas Hoult) gets taken along, and who lives and who dies make up the rest of the story.
I liked this a lot. No wonder it won 6 Oscars and was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Director.
