Alice Howell #3 – “Under New Management” (1915) – reviewed by George

Alice stayed busy supporting L-Ko’s stars Billie Ritchie and Gertrude Selby. And her efforts gave her the opportunity to prove her talent, and led to her starring in her own series.
This film was released October 13, 1915. Sadly only reel one and two minutes of reel two have survived.
In the head office of a fly paper manufacturer the stenographer (Gertrude Selby) is trying her best to get some typing done, but one of the clerks (Ray Griffith) is attracted and wants a kiss and a date. And he can be irritatingly persistent because the Boss, Mr. Jones (Gene Rogers) is out.
But ahah! The Boss’s wife Mrs. Jones (Alice Howell) shows up, sees what is going on, and kicks everybody out, including her husband, and now SHE is the Boss. The fights and scuffles are funny and the film is Recommended. I do wish the rest of reel two would show up somewhere. Maybe in storage in Iceland or Siberia.
And I guess the writing and directing credits are on reel two.
